Bring a fresh flower to create a community bouquet or get one as you enter the Welcome Hall.  Take home a flower given to you by someone else in the ritual.  (To avoid the climate-chaos effects of imported blooms, we will supply 150 California-grown flowers, but if you have access to some local flowers, bring them!)  Rev. Norbert Capek created the Flower Communion in the Unitarian Church of Prague in 1923 and his widow brought it to the U.S. after fleeing the Nazi regime.

Looking at Fathers and Fatherhood

Rev. Dr. Roger Jones and presenters from the congregation, Worship Associate Andy Cramer, Music Director Anthony Tavianini, Pianist Irina Tchantceva

Several UUSS people will reflect on fatherhood, whether as parents or mentors ourselves or as recipients or observers of a father’s care and role-modeling.  Among other feelings, our experiences have included appreciation, humor, joy, disappointment, sadness, and inspiration.  Let’s consider how our observations and experiences continue to shape our attitudes and actions today.  If you have input for this service, please contact Rev. Roger by June 8.

  • Before the service: Tai Chi/Qi Gong at 9:30 in the Fahs Room.

Diyos sa Gugma (God of Love): Building Bridges with the UU Church of the Philippines (UUCP)

Rev. Kevin Alan Mann preaching with Rev. Dr. Roger Jones, Worship Associate Celia Buckley Music Director Anthony Tavianini, Pianist Irina Tchantceva

There are over 3,000 Unitarian Universalists in the Philippines in 24 congregations and 15 newly forming fellowships. Most are located in remote rural farming and fishing villages. What can UUs from the Philippines teach us about their unique expression of our shared global faith? How can building bridges of mutuality guide American UUs on our path of becoming the anti-racist, multicultural, multi-racial church our faith calls us to be?

Rev. Kev (he/him/siyá) is an affiliated minister at First Unitarian Church of Oakland, which ordained him in 2023. He serves as a Chaplain at Sequoia Hospice, Faculty Advisor at Starr King School for the Ministry, and Consultant for Partnership with the UU Church of the Philippines. He founded the California chapter of Diverse Revolutionary UU Multicultural Ministries), hosting quarterly retreats for BIPOC UUs. His ministry is rooted in Collective Liberation where none of us are free until all of us are free.

Note:  In today’s offering, 100% of all non-pledge contributions will be given to support the UU Church of the Philippines.  If you send a check to the UUSS Office, please note UUCP on the memo line.
