UU Parkway Mile Cleanup This Saturday, March 11

Conditions on the UU mile of the Parkway are changing rapidly as spring approaches and the river recedes, exposing an unusual display of the forces of high water. I took a walk on our mile last Saturday and made the photographs below when the river was flowing at about 10,000 cubic feet per second (cfs).

The UUSS Parkway Stewards’ Soup Sunday was a rousing success! When leaving home Saturday morning to help clean up the UU mile of the American River Parkway I was in bright sunshine, but upon arrival at our meeting place, there was only fog… until the thirteen delightful people below showed up with enough sunshine in their attitudes to light up the UU mile!  In the

Regrettably we must cancel our makeup cleanup of the UU Parkway mile tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 17. The river is now running at the highest level in ten years, with releases of 35,000 cubic feet/sec. from Folsom Lake causing many areas of the Parkway to be closed.  I visited our mile today and, from the top of the levee

Parkway Cleanup Postponed to Next Week, Saturday, December 17

Several sources of weather information predict significant amounts of rain on the Parkway tonight and tomorrow. Even though, while out in a rainstorm, an old cowboy once told me, “Son, you ain’t sugar; you won’t melt!”, I think it best to cancel tomorrow’s cleanup of the UU Mile, and postpone it one week to Saturday,

Hi, Folks, With my appreciation to our cleanup crew member Rayma Forrest for offering it, we have a quote from E. O. Wilson to set the spirit for our December invitation to clean up UU’s adopted mile of the American River Parkway.  As a renowned biologist and author, Dr. Wilson is known as “the father

Cleanup of UUSS's Parkway Mile This Saturday, Nov. 12

With autumn fully upon us, on the UU mile of the American River Parkway the leaves are gently falling, brilliant greens have sprung from the recent rains, many salmon fishers are having great luck, some migrant birds are appearing… and the evidence of much human activity remains for us to clean up once again. News From The UU Mile of the American River Parkway

A 10-22-16 pleasant walk on UU’s adopted mile of the American River Parkway resulted in some interesting findings.  Of heartening note first was a posted notice of a project by PG&E, SMUD, the American River Parkway Foundation and Sacramento County Parks Dept. to restore areas recently burned in wildfires on the UU mile. Next, it was
