Sunday, Jan. 20, 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Main Hall; freewill donation suggested.
Our presenter is a lifelong Sikh and a lifelong UU. After her Jan. 20 10:30 a.m. sermon, come look in more depth at the Sikh religion, which originated in the 1400s in the Punjab region of South Asia (now India and Pakistan). Its founder, Guru Nanak, was born to a Hindu family in 1469. Its holy book contains mostly devotional poetry and not narrative prose like many other scriptures. Features include vegetarianism, no required rituals, a gender-neutral deity, and emphasis on women’s equality. Many Sikhs live in California, especially in the Central Valley. Come learn more about this faith.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

I made a mistake. Rev. Ilene discovered the Sikh religion about 10 years ago and has been practicing and studying it since then. She’s made several trips to India. But she IS a lifelong UU. Be sure to hear her sermon and stay for the forum (noon to 1:00, with light snacks) this Sunday.
