Several people have asked for resources on Stoicism after the sermon on Sunday. Here is my list.

Feel free to add your own.   Get in touch if you want to have a conversation about Stoicism.

Ryan Holiday – author and podcaster.  https://dailystoic.com/

His book the Daily Stoic is a great resource.     Other books as well.

The Beginner’s Guide to Stoicism: Tools for Emotional Resilience and Positivity

Matthew Van Natta

A great intro book – excellent background and summary.

I appreciated this video: https://www.stoicinsights.com/philosopher-jules-evans-on-why-stoicism-has-become-so-popular-over-the-last-decade/

Stoicism For Dummies

Tom Morris, Gregory Bassham

Lots of detail (maybe too much), but well written and comprehensive.  Does not take itself very seriously.

How to Be a Stoic: Using Ancient Philosophy to Live a Modern Life

Another good intro book.  Includes personal stories.  The organization was a challenge for me, but there is good content.

Great Courses (the teaching company)

Think like a Stoic: Ancient Wisdom for Today’s World – Massimo Pigliucci

If you have access to the Great Courses (subscription) this 26 session course is really good.

  1. Thanks, Lucy. I sent you an email for the same info, but ignore it. Eric

  2. there is a youtube channel that teaches philosophy by relating it to film. he has a two parter on stoicism using the films “shawshank redemption” and “gladiator”. i’ve watched them several times over the years, really excellent:
