RST Fall 2025 Update

As our new fiscal year begins with hope during increasingly troubling times, especially for refugees, we feel enormous gratitude for all the support we have received from so many of you for our successful summer activities program for 21 of our elementary and middle school kids and for the many new folks joining our mailing list with eagerness to volunteer in a variety of ways.
Our upcoming foremost challenges are to provide funding and understanding for our 6 sponsored families as immigration fees and legal costs increase, and their benefits dwindle, and to ensure that our asylum seekers and green card holders do not fall victim to the pressure, possible illegal detention and threat of deportation while they already have obtained now precarious legal status.
Our second priority is to make sure our breadwinners are supported in obtaining employment and safe transportation to work and school, in spite of cuts to federally funded programs to assist them.
Third, but very important is maintaining volunteer accompaniment and ESL tutoring for our students ages 3 to adult, especially now that the Highland Community Charter School for free ESL classes is not available.
