Parkway UU Mile Cleanup This Saturday, Aug. 13

Hi, All,

It’s deep summertime and the UU mile of the American River Parkway definitely needs some TLC.  As requested by the Parkway Foundation of the stewards of each mile, I spent about 3 hours last week documenting the “condition” of our area of responsibility.  Unsightly evidence of summertime use was easy to find, and we now have our monthly chance to make it better.  In addition to the presence of trash there were also tranquil scenes like the one below as reminders of our purpose.

So, if you’d like to lend a hand, we’ll meet as usual, between 8:45-9:00 AM in the parking lot at the west end of Northrop Avenue, next to the levee, near Panera off Howe Avenue.  If this will be your first time to assist, I’ll get your contact info and brief you on our cleanup activity.  We’ll clean up trash from the Parkway until 10:30 and rejoin at that time at the foot of the levee stairway for a quick photo of our crew and the results of our work.  Coffee and conversation afterward at Panera are always a pleasant option afterward.

I was pleased to learn that AB 1716 (McCarty), which would create the Lower American River Conservancy, has only to clear the Senate Appropriations Committee before it can be sent to the Governor for signature.  Among the purposes of the bill is to “…help fund projects and provide grants to restore, enhance, interpret, protect, and improve public access to the American River Parkway’s natural, recreational, educational, and cultural resources.”  You may find more information about the bill, as well as encourage the Governor to sign it into law at: http://asmdc.org/members/a07/other-resources/support-ab-1716

With much appreciation for the Parkway and for your caring for it,
Dave
