Thanks to the UU who contacted me with a need for clarification about my message. Senator-elect Raphael Warnock is the first Black senator to be elected since post-Civil-War Reconstruction times in Georgia, a former Confederate state. However, the first Black senator in ANY former Confederate state is Sen. Tim Scott in South Carolina. A Republican, he was appointed in 2013 and elected with a 60% majority in 2017.
