Join us at 10:00 a.m. on 1st & 3rd Mondays for poetry discussion with JoAnn Anglin on Zoom at uuss.org/online. JoAnn writes: Monday morning we’ll gather online to discuss our take on a poem: “my parents’ first meeting in a refugee camp”. The poet, Bhion Achimba, is an immigrant, Nigerian American. The poem resonated with me largely because of our nightly TV News images of such camp life, mainly in Syria and Palestine. Do we look at them closely? Do we look away? Do we relate? These are complex times and our thoughts and feelings are complex, too. Let’s look at Achimba’s poem and see what it awakens in us.
The poem can be seen online at: https://poems.com/poem/my-parents-first-meeting-in-a-refugee-camp
