This email provides updates from your UUSS volunteer leaders. This month includes information from the Board of Trustees and the Program Council.

Board of Trustees
The Board extends its heartfelt gratitude to the congregation for attending the Spring Annual Congregational Meeting on May 17 and for voting to approve the 2026/2027 Operating Budget. Special thanks to Victoria Owens for her detailed budget presentation.

• Financial Health: Treasurer Victoria Owens reported that UUSS finances continue to be very healthy, tracking a $57,000 surplus as of the end of April. Revenues are higher than expected due to robust non-pledged revenue from newcomers, while building rentals and investment revenues have already exceeded their full fiscal year targets.
• Support for Neighbors: The Board formally approved a letter of support to the SALAM Islamic Center following the recent attacks on the Muslim community in San Diego, standing in solidarity and community with our neighbors.
• Website Redesign Updates: The Website Redesign Task Force is moving forward with a redesign of our website that will use the UU Cedar Lane website as a template. We are now running a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Website Redesign project. Please share the following link with anyone who may be interested: https://bit.ly/uusswebsiterfp.

Announcing Our Search:
Member Engagement Coordinator
With the passage of the 2026/2027 budget, UUSS is officially moving forward with hiring a Newcomer and Member Engagement Coordinator. This 20–25 hour-a-week staff position will focus on guiding newcomers into membership and fostering deeper community engagement for all members.

A dedicated interview task force chaired by Mary Howard and featuring Joyce Ownbey (Program Council), Fred Pannek (Board), and Crystal Fountain (RE Coordinator) will begin evaluating applicants.

UUA/GA
UUSS had delegate representation at the online General Assembly of the UUA, our denomination. This included Board Secretary Fred Pannek and Ministerial Intern Sophia McKean, who attended many of the business sessions and workshops, as well as voting-only delegates Peter Bishop, Rev. Roger and Rev. Lucy. Sophia summarized the business matters in the Friday Message email on June 19. About 20 people attended the Ware Lecture Watch Party on Saturday, June 20, hosted by Fred. The next General Assembly will take place in person in June of 2027 in downtown San Jose, CA, with virtual participation also possible.

Shared Offering
Thanks to your generosity, in May UUSS contributed $4,100 to NAMI/Sacramento, and our fifth Sunday partner, Effie Yeaw Nature Center received $885.

Program Council
Program Council is pleased to announce that Maria Espinosa-Castro has been appointed to a vacant position with the appointment term ending June 30, 2027.
We also express our gratitude to Jim Glidden, whose term ends this June 30th. Jim brought tremendous effort and value to our community in his role, and we will be sad to no longer have him with us, but glad to continue to see him at UUSS! Danielle Vickers is joining us to start her 2-year term on July 1 and we are excited to welcome her to Program Council.

Your elected Board of Trustees meets monthly. Our next meeting will be Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 6:30 PM, on Zoom (by accessing the same Zoom link as the Sunday morning services) and in-person gathering in the library. You are welcome to join us!
