  1. I would very much like to participate on Jan. 15 but I have a question about the two different marches. It confused me to find that the march started on Alhambra instead of at Sac City College. I would be very interested to know about the two marches. I support very much the message that seems to be conveyed by the words “This Was Not the Dream”. Why has UUSS chosen to march in the march starting at the Safeway on Alhambra? Is it in any way a counter-march to the other march, and why?

My other question is about signs. Could I bring signs and is there a unified message that UUSS would like to send that day?

    Thank you!

  2. Hi Susan,

The march you are referring to that starts at Sac City College is the corporate MLK365 march that has the following partners:
    – Sacramento Police Department (killed Dazion Flenaugh and Joseph Mann, beat Nandi Cain, Trish Hill, and Zityrua Abraham)
    – Sacramento Sheriff Department (killed Adriene Ludd, Ryan Ellis, and Mikel Mcintyre and beat Nandi Cain and Trish Hill)
    – California Highway Patrol (Killed Jason King)
    – The MLK365 march also has SacPD on its board.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was also a victim of police violence which is quite a political and pacifying contradiction.

UUSS is participating in the march organized by Black Lives Matter. Our unified message is that we stand with the Black community rather than the corporate and political forces that claim to have their “best interests” at heart.

You are welcome to bring signs. We will be marching with our banner and BLM will also have extra signs.
