Last fall was the 100th anniversary of the start of the pointless and pitiless First World War. It changed the map of the world, wiped out a generation of Europeans, and broke the Western world’s optimism in human progress and goodness. Let’s honor and remember what the great powers of the world did to one another, and pray that we avoid repeating such a cruel mistake.
