CLIMATE CHANGE: WHERE ARE WE NOW?

Dr. Tom Suchanek is a marine ecologist and climate scientist. His lecture on November 5th, “Climate Change: Where Are We Now?”, will include the scientific basis behind the detection, risks, impacts and solutions to Climate Change. He will address: How “is” and “will” ongoing climate change affect extreme and unpredictable events, including: temperature, rainfall, tornadoes, hurricanes, frequency and intensity of fires, sea level rise, El Niño events, ocean acidification, and global energy sources. He will also discuss the critical Paris Climate Agreement and how each of us can make a difference. A question/answer period will follow. The talk is free of charge. Coffee, tea & cookies provided.

tomTom received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut, Master’s degree at Stonybrook University and Ph.D. at the University of Washington.  Currently, he’s a Scientist Emeritus with the US Geological Survey in Sacramento and was Climate Science Coordinator for the USGS Southwest Climate Science Center in Tucson. He also served as Director of the Environmental Contaminants Division and Chief of the Natural Resources Damage Assessment Branch with the US Fish & Wildlife Service in Sacramento. For 20 years, he was a Research Ecologist and Lecturer with UC Davis, where he maintains two affiliations: one with the Department of Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology, the other with the Bodega Marine Laboratory. While at UCD, he was also the Western Regional Director of the US Department of Energy’s National Institute for Global Environmental Change. He has published over 150 articles, including peer reviewed journal papers, agency reports, and a co-authored book (Marine Life of the Caribbean) with James Cribb and Jacques Yves Cousteau.
