October 12, 2014 Congregational Meeting Minutes
The October Congregational meeting was called to order 11:50 a.m. Thirty percent of the congregation attended.
Judy Morrison moved and Wilma Hash seconded that the minutes from the October 2013 and April 2014 congregational meetings be approved. The minutes were unanimously approved.
President Linda Clear reported that the transition to the Sierra Arden United Church of Christ (SAUCC) could not have gone more smoothly and thanked all of the volunteers and staff for working so expeditiously. Linda indicated that church committees are going great and thanked them for their work. Among the committees and lay leaders thanked were: the Stewardship team, Meg Burnett for directing the choir, membership committee, the building project steering committee, fundraising team, the project delivery team, Megan Brooks for setting up the sound equipment at SAUCC. Linda also thanked the new members from UUCC and our ministerial team for helping the board to make good decisions.
Margaret Wilcox, Chair of the Building Project Steering Committee, reported on the progress of the building project. Our project managers, John McMillan and Judy Moran, are meeting weekly with Jackson Construction. The demolition work is done and work on the foundation is scheduled to begin shortly. Colene Schlaephfer and Rich Howard are chairing the Project Delivery Team, which will be researching items we will need for the interior of the building such as chairs and audio-visual equipment. Mary Howard is chair of the Building Project Fundraising Team, which will raise funds to bridge the gap between what was raised in the Capital Campaign and what the costs of the project are. They will also raise funds for the costs of items needed for the interior of the building. Monthly updates on the project will be included in the Unigram and will be posted on the UUSS website with pictures.
Denis Edgren provided the Treasurer’s Report. The 2014-15 budget contains a $43,000 surplus. So far this year, pledge and plate income is slightly below budgeted amounts. The Finance Committee is confident that the budget for pledge receipts is realistic. The church is in good shape financially.
Rev. Roger Jones presented greetings from Rev. Lucy Bunch who is one-quarter time in Lake County. Rev. Roger thanked Lucy for her hard work during the move to SAUCC. Roger is very happy to be serving here. Spiritual Deepening Circles have been initiated with over 100 participants. We have a strong adult enrichment program and have hired Ina June as a new pianist. Stanton Vedell has been selected as the new Congregational Support and Facilities Coordinator. Roger also thanked the rest of the staff: Elaine, Michele and Miranda and the custodians for their work in making sure things happen every week.
Congregational members voted for community partners for 2015.
Kevin Sitter moved that we adjourn the meeting, Carrie Cornwell seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
The meeting adjourned at 12:35 p.m.
